City of Salinas Police Department
Salinas Police Department will work closely with the District Attorney and City Attorney as part of the strategy to eliminate gang violence, truancy, and all types of crimes. Provide necessary reports to the Weed & Seed Coordinator, and be present at all meetings. They will adhere to the Law enforcement strategies goals and objectives.
Salinas P.A.L.
P.A.L. will use police officers to provide special recreation supervision for excursion trips from the “Safe Haven” for at-risk youth in the Weed & Seed target neighborhood. The Police Activities League has committed its resources to provide four excursions for youth. Excursions will include activities such as, a snow trip to the Sierras, horseback riding at Big Sur, and an excursing trip to San Francisco. Weed and Seed funds will be utilized for police overtime to ensure adequate office coverage during these excursions. All other costs for the excursion trips will come from P.A.L. fundraisers, donations or in-kind agreements. P.A.L. will provide necessary reports to the Weed & Seed Coordinator and be present at all meetings.
CHISPA
CHISPA will be an active participant in the Weed & Seed Initiative. CHISPA, has affordable housing units in the targeted area, believes in strong community partnerships. CHISPA Housing staff will work with tenants in order to identify quality of life issues and encourage them to take an active role in their neighborhoods. CHISPA will work collaboratively with local law enforcement and our residents to demonstrate involvement through initiating and organizing their own events, such as landlord/tenant meetings, activity fairs, markets and neighborhood watch.
Girls Scouts of California’s Central Coast
Girls Scouts of California’s Central Coast will hire two group leaders who will lead after school program activities once a week for 30-40 girls in grades K through 8. The program will be at two locations in Census Tract 05: Roosevelt Town Homes and Hebbron Family Center (Safehaven). Sessions will run for (2) hours each as part of an after school program option. Program options will feature science fun for girls, leadership development, community service an awareness, nutrition and fitness. Teenage girls and family members are welcome to participate and learn roles of leadership.
Monterey County Probation Dept.
The Monterey County Probation Department will provide protection to the residents by preventing and reducing frequency, severity, and impact of criminal and delinquent behavior among adults and juveniles who come within the jurisdiction of the Probation Department. Provide necessary reports to the Weed & Seed Coordinator, and be present at all meetings. They will adhere to the strategies goals and objectives.
Safe Haven
The City of Salinas Recreation-Parks Division will oversee and staff operations at the “Safe Haven” site. The “Safe Haven” site is located at the Hebbron Family Center, north wing, 683 Fremont Street. The City of Salinas Recreation-Park Division will provide one assistant to the Weed & Seed Coordinator and provide administrative support.
SUBA (Salinas United Business Association)
Over 200 small businesses are specifically located within the proposed Census Tract 05 target area. This partnership between SUBA and the Salinas Redevelopment Agency has grown stronger and more active over the past three years with over 200 businesses participating. Community policing, code enforcement and prevention activities for young people after school, will be part of a long-term solution for this community. SUBA will work hard on focusing on these areas. They will regularly attend Weed & Seed Executive meetings and Weed Subcommittee meetings to support the goals and objectives of the Weed & Seed program.
Sun Street Centers
P.A.R.T.S. (Preventing Alcohol Related Trauma in Salinas) – will provide peer counseling using high school students under adult supervision to provide a six week, once per week training at the “Safe Haven” located at 683 Fremont Avenue for boys and girls ages 11-14. The Program will use interactive activities to raise awareness of the issues surrounding alcohol use by minors. Grantee will work with the parents in Census Tract 05 (Hebbron Neighborhood) to empower them to work on specific community issues such as operating standards for businesses and continuing programming promoting the zero tolerance of alcohol and tobacco sales to minors. Provide necessary reports to the Weed & Seed Coordinator, and be present at all meetings.
City of Salinas Code Enforcement
Protect the integrity of public health, safety and welfare. Decrease sub-standard housing conditions and provide aggressive and proactive code enforcement to control the quality of life issues, nuisances and violation of health regulations. Provide enforcement in land use codes such as Zoning Ordinances, Uniform Building Codes, Property Maintenance and Uniform Fire Codes.
